In much the same way idiotic local governments want Olympics, or World Cup, or Super Bowls.
Huge costs to the public for little, if any economic benefit. It's okay, let Joe taxpayer foot the bill.
Witness the mythical Foxconn (with emphasis on the con) plant in Wisconsin. And folk's never seem to learn from watching what happens to their neighbors. Let the rich pay their own way.
I don't know who's worse in this. The Johns or the prostitutes.
BTW, congratulations on WBD. You're doing better with it than I thought possible. Although there's been a bit of a rising tide lifting all of late. Their debt still scares the piss outta me, but if you can make a quick 20 or 30% and get out, do it.
