Yep, it's a great place to be from.
I've experienced summertime in Houston, and I can tell you that it's no worse there than the St. Louis area in summer. The humidity is miserable, and when you step out from air conditioning your body immediately becomes a condensation nuclei. In a matter of minutes your clothes are soaked with perspiration that won't evaporate.
Lot more history in that area than most are aware of. Lewis and Clark overwintered at the Village on the Wood River before their voyage of discovery. And that just warmup to the French activities in the area that predate L&C by a century or more. The native history at Cahokia, Lincoln, and the list goes on.
My wife grew up in Decatur, so Illinois roots go deep with us.
