My office is a separate building tagged onto the garage and had no heat, so that was the first to get a mini-split. Our back bedrooms never got a lot of heat and we didn't have any A/C, so we opted for the mini-splits instead of adding A/C via the gas heater which is in the basement and doesn't really have the space.
Anyway, the mini-splits are way more efficient. After installing the mini-split in my office, our electric bill went down quite a bit compared to a couple of space heaters and it's way better. Man was it freezing in here in the old days in the morning and it only got really warm in the bathroom and near my desk where the heaters were located.
Mostly we use the mini-splits just for A/C when needed and it only uses maybe an extra 200-300 kWh per month which our solar produces, so it's basically free. We have quite a bit of power banked and will use some for heat now.
