If that were the fair amount for use and abuse on the roads, then the gas tax would be taken away and the metric would be solely mileage and weight of the vehicle. Clearly, a motorcycle is less stressful to the road than a 18 wheeler big rig. Likewise, a small compact car causes less destruction of the road than a SUV.

The reality is that due to gas mileage, the gas taxes are reasonably fair. The problem is that we're beginning to have too many EVs on the road that are getting a free ride!
