Whatever works.

I used to use cygwin to use rsync from my PC when I used FreeBSD. Later, I found the robocopy on the PC worked quite well and was simpler.

For the Macs, you can just use the Terminal app and do it directly using rsync. Write a little script and do your backups with the crontab. I backup the colo servers to a local Mac Mini with a USB drive here using rsync. Then, it gets copied over to the NAS as well.
