RE: At one time the Feds were more involved with mental health care

It all started when he was governor of Cali. He had wealthy donors there that were in the private mental health biz. So he privatized it in Cali to his donor's benefit.

To be somewhat fair, at that time in the '60's there was some abuse of the system that allowed family members to have other family members committed when there was no medical reason to do so. The ACLU even at the time supported doing away with commitment laws because of abuses.
