When wife and I bought this house in 1991, the house two doors down had an old, beat-up and rusty 1970's vintage Ford Maverick on cinder blocks sitting in their driveway. It certainly gave us pause to wonder at the time if this really was the kind of neighborhood we wanted to buy in to.
Shortly after taking possession and moving in, we discovered that neighbor was a Master Mechanic with American Airlines, and that Maverick was the donor car for the Cobra kit he was building. Some six months later the donor was gone, but it still took him another six months to finish the kit.
It was a thing of beauty, and the noise it made was glorious. Sadly, not long after he completed it his Parkinson's Disease, which had been mostly dormant, took a dramatic turn for the worse, and maybe a year after finishing his Cobra, he was no longer allowed to drive. The Cobra replica was eventually sold.
