Great efforts have been made over the last 40 years to commodify the worker.
The writing on the wall has been there since the Industrial Revolution.
There was a time when workers were considered assets and were paid accordingly.
The real difference is a lot of manufacturing labor has been replaced by robotics because they are a more productive asset. And the use of automated checkout counters and kiosks are common everywhere replacing clerks. Just as automobiles replaced horse drawn carriages when technology advanced. And buttons replaced Elevator Attendants.
That trend will only continue.
The challenge is transitioning a segment of the workforce to having needed skills.
