Common Nighthawk of the Day (or Evening, as the case may be) -- juxtaposed with the just-past-new moon.

We thought we'd missed 'em this year, as we were away for a week.
Just after dinner tonight, we saw a couple. Then more. Then more. Some years, they fly right over our house. Tonight, they were mostly over the treeline to the west, maybe a thousand yards or so from our porch. Ergo the viewing, and the photos, ain't great (so far)... but it was still danged wonderful to see them.
