There's another story floating around. It involves a BLEVE which I understand occurs when a fire starts around a container of fuel, lets say the fuel tanks hauled around to fill up the tanks on jets. The fire heats up the closed tank and the fuel begins to rise in temperature. As the fuel begins to boil, the pressure inside the tank rises. When the tank bursts, it explodes with incredible force. One fuel tank spewing shrapnel could have set off the the other fuel tanks.
It sounds possible but it would take a lot of things to go right the first time because there likely wouldn't be a second chance. The Ukrainian SOF guys have pulled off some very interesting operations so I think they could get it done and manage to get away as well. We'll probably have to wait for a while before we know the truth.
