Portland is a short hop from Salem and we pulled into the Mark a bit after noon. Since we couldn't check in right then, we headed out to find some food. The hotel clerk gave us a few options and Kenny & Zuke's was a winner!
This classic pastrami on rye was simply fantastic. Even New Yorkers will agree that it's the best (outside of New York).
;)
Downtown Portland is a nightmare for getting around as every street is a one way street, so you're constantly making 3 right turns trying to get to the right place.
It's an interesting mix of older building and new high rises.
Last night, we ventured out over the river to meet up with Viridian and his lovely wife. It's a 20 minute drive and only about 4 miles. Due to being in a wrong lane to make a left or a right more than once, I found out why Google allocated 20 minutes for the trip. It actually took more than that to just get to the road for the bridge out of downtown.
Finally, cruising at 60 mph on US 26 with just 3 miles to go, we hit a stop and creep at the end of the bridge. It took us about an hour overall and we were glad we left way early.
Dinner at viridian's was outstanding with poached salmon and sauce, potato salad, asparagus and green beans and desert. He's quite the chef and his wife is wonderful. Somehow he and I nearly finished a bottle of scotch and the girls, a couple of all fresh margaritas and I still had to navigate the maze of one way streets back to the hotel near midnight. All in all, a great day.
Oh, I forgot, Liz's speakers are fun and can rock whether playing a silver disc or some vinyl.
