I've read that the battlefront in Ukraine is some 2500 km or so long. If the Russians don't have the railroads, they can't provide enough fuel, heavy equipment such as tanks, or other supplies to all their troops with the relatively small number of trucks they have. Logistics are still dictating terms on the battlefield.
