RE: The NEXT Insult

I'd be one of those with "odd-sized" or "differential/unidirectional" tires on nearly all of my vehicles. Not only are they brutally expensive, they're (in many cases) hard to find--especially recently.

As for driving less?--tires are a "use it or lose it proposition". Even if you don't wear them out, they age-out. My 1979 Mustang Indy Pace Car (that I bought with ~100 original miles on it) had the original tires on it. Of course they weren't safe to drive with, even though they looked brand new. And, of course, the car has "special" metric rims (390mm) that are in very limited production/availability. When I bought my 1990 Diablo last year, the tires looked like new, but the date codes showed that they were 12 years old--in need of replacement. Being odd and staggered sizes, it took me almost a month (and nearly two thousand dollars) to get it re-shod. My Suburban has 22" factory rims. Did I want 22" rims?--NO, but I had to have them if I wanted the Brembo brake package (which I did want).

OTOH, you don't have to buy Michelin, Pirelli, Continental, Goodyear, etc. Many of the "off-brands" are rated as well or better for a lot less money.

"And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP
