It's like I posted--a work in-progress...

...and it's not just signing a deal with Tesla for the "rights" to use them, there are actual compatibility issues regarding voltages and rate of charging. None of this has been globally "standardized", and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and in some cases even from model to model.

My Tesla is a Tesla, so it is fully-compatible. Hooking a Tesla Supercharger to some EVs (especially older ones) would be like hooking-up an arc-welder to charge your electric lawn tools or iPhone. My Tesla has a cooling system built into the battery-pack that allows rapid energy transfer (both in and out) to keep the battery cool. Others don't, and their life-span is dramatically reduced by frequent rapid-charging.

This will eventually "settle-out", but nothing is "universal"--YET. Everyone is "doing their own thing" and the tech is changing so rapidly. "Next-Gen" EVs and batteries may be far better, but incompatible with what we have now.

That's why I keep harping on it being too early to set a "standard"--but the industry is working on it.

It would not surprise me if someone comes-up with a charging station like a conventional gas-pump. There will be different voltages and rates of charge capacity--just like regular, premium, or ultra fuels. I should patent that LOL.
