That's exactly the reason the salary cap works...

...none of the owners are hurting for cash--that's a given. But some have deeper pockets than others and are more willing to spend virtually any amount of money for a Lombardi Trophy.

By limiting their budget, the cap serves as somewhat of an "equalizer" in the league. If you draft, otherwise acquire, and/or cultivate great players and build a great team, you eventually "hit a wall" where you can't afford to keep them all, or can't afford to add additional talent.

The Bengals have got a ton of young talent--all still on rookie contracts (cheap), but if they continue to perform as they did at the end of last season, Cincy has a short window before they will have to start letting them go, because they won't be able to afford to keep them all.

IMO, the Chiefs made a HUGE mistake with the Mahomes contract--way too long, and way too much guaranteed money--and now they are cash-strapped for adding/replacing talent at other positions. And quite honestly, based on last season's performance, he may have already peaked and beginning to decline.

"And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP
