/...and that is another thing that most Americans don't understand, either.

It's been so long since an actual war/combat scenario has occurred on US soil, that there is a certain "disconnect" or "misunderstanding"--I don't know what other terms to choose. Sure--we have been "at war" (to some degree of involvement) for what seems like forever/continuously, but just "not here". Our military veterans know/realize this--many have participated, but the average American has never had the elementary school just down the block shelled by artillery.

People have already forgotten that prior to 9/11, the greatest act of terrorism against the US was an act of domestic terrorism in OKC.
