BMW proposed this like 2 years ago. Tesla even tried it, but backed-off due to the back-lash. Yeah--build them all the same and activate whatever features the current owner is willing to pay for. Not only do you have to pay for the hunk of metal and plastic, you have to sign-on to the EULA and keep paying.
And the used car market? How do you sell a vehicle that you don't know what features work or don't or won't? We're already seeing some of this with the discontinuation of 3G.
