...homes are way too big, families have too many vehicles, and just too much "stuff" (in general)--and I'm guilty as charged--totally willing to acknowledge that.

When my parents married, my mother was a nurse, and my father an engineer for Westinghouse. When my mother got pregnant with me, she quit working to be a stay at home mom for two decades--until my younger sister and I both were ready to go out on our own. While I was finishing my undergrad, and my sister was starting nursing school, my mother was upgrading her degree/qualifications from an RN to an MSN--and then went back to work.

We got by. We could have had "bigger, better, more" if my mother had worked, but she wanted to be a parent. We were never handed-off to a baby-sitter (unless it was one of my aunts or grandmothers). Our family raised us--not some underpaid and overworked "lackies" that only cared about a paycheck.

We (my sister and I) did the dishes, I mowed the lawns, and still worked on local farms to earn my own money. I had enough money stashed to buy my first car before I was even old enough to get my driver's license.

My wife and I both worked while raising our daughters, but we "juggled" our schedules to be parents (and sometimes it was tough) but the girls were never "farmed-out" to strangers. We both sacrificed some "career advancements" while putting being parents ahead of $$$.

I'll step out on a limb--and hand you the chainsaw--but IMO 90% of the recent "issues" in society are due to "poor parenting"--or just lack of parenting. There are just as many f**ked-up rich kids as there are poor kids. The rich kids just have better attorneys.

I admire the Ukrainians that we have taken-in. Their primary objective was to keep the family together, safe, and provided for--at any cost, including their lives.

"And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP
