...apparently we got some where I was living at the time. And IIRC, it was one of those "use it or lose it" propositions.
They repaved a perfectly fine road--like a 5-6 mile stretch, in the most f**cked-up way possible. One contractor came and painted all new lines/crosswalks. Another contractor came out less than two weeks later and ground-off the entire surface layer of asphalt--including the newly painted lines. Then they re-paved the entire street (and painted all new lines/crosswalks). After that, another contractor came out and dug holes in the newly paved road to install concrete pads at all of the city bus-stops along the route. Of course, then the painting crew had to come back out and repaint the lines and crosswalks that got wiped-out where the concrete bus-pads were installed.
The whole process took the better part of 6-7 months and God only knows how much money was spent. But the "kicker" was when the city filed suit against the paving contractor for using sub-standard materials for the project. It was still under litigation when I moved up here.
"And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP
