...I'll return the cart to the "corral", but most of the time there is someone approaching the store to get one, so I just give them mine. Most of the time when I go there, I don't pay for a cart--someone just hands me one out in the lot. So I just "play fair"--I won't take their quarter, and generally, they won't take mine. No one around here is really worried about that quarter. There are probably days that any given cart ends the day with the first quarter that was put-in when they opened. The cart was just handed-off all day long. All good!
Hell, I've even paid for a few items here and there for little old ladies that get stuck behind me and my truckload full of stuff. If I see someone behind me with 2 or 3 things, I'll let them go ahead of me and my over-filled cart full of stuff. Sometimes I "miss" and they've started ringing my order (which is going to take a while) before I notice. I'll just take their couple things, put it on my order, hand them back and then tell them to have a nice day. It's only a few bucks, so who cares? If just one person does that for my mother (and they have), it's all worth it. Just raised wrong, I guess...
