...but I think they just haven't bought enough politicians--again, yet. The public utilities commission has consistently been reluctant to allow rate increases, and the State still offers incentives for EV purchases and solar installations. The fact that they are in the process of shutting-down all of the coal-fired generation plants, and decommissioning the sole nuke plant on our grid, might have something to do with it, as well. I'm not sure they are prepared to fill the gaps left by these supply losses--just yet. They have already been forced to delay these plant closures (a couple times) while they are getting new natural gas-fired plants built and on-line.
My panels are up and running, and I don't really have any room for expansion, unless I were to put some on the ground way out back, and I'm not looking to do that. Electricity is still comparatively cheap around here. Solar helps, but due to the climate, not nearly as effective as in southern or western states.
It's far too "flat" around here for hydro-electric generation, winds off the Lake are far too unpredictable for effective wind generation, and Cleveland/Buffalo area is not exactly prime solar territory.
From the posts I've read from Rod (and others in CA), CA is really putting the screws to homeowners with solar installations, or intending to install solar arrays.
