In this case it IS fortunate...

...but years ago, during my brief time in the private sector, I worked for a consulting firm involving a LOT of international travel/clients. Americans ARE the "ignorant Americans". Oftentimes I was outright embarrassed. My German and French were "passable", but my international clients generally spoke "better" (more correct) American English than even I did. We (Americans) just expect everyone to accommodate us--not vice-versa--and they were paying me to be there in their country.

As I mentioned, Eva is a teacher, and her father Dmitry is a retired literature professor--fluent in 7 languages, so the kids/grandkids are fluent in English--which will serve them well, wherever they go or whatever they eventually do.

The kids are taking aptitude tests later this week to assess grade-level placement and should be starting school next week. Based on my limited interactions with them, I'm guessing that they're ahead of the curve for their ages.

"And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP
