I would say it's not good to put things in quotes to imply that I ever said that about 2001: A Space Odyssey - a vastly superior film to Dune.
Star wars was cops and robbers in space but it had character development to where I cared what happened to those characters. Dune had none of that. If you have ZERO character development or anyone likeable then you don't have much to hold my interest. The theme is not exactly all that 'deep' even compared to the likes of Star Wars. Imperialistic power crushing a smaller less powerful regime (same as Dune). A mystical power in the universe (The Force/Magic Spice). Hell, they both had Sandworms (Return of the Jedi).
