RE: Earned the right ? How ?

I'm a put yourself in another person's shoes kind of a guy.

I went to university with a single mom of two - the husband died. She was putting herself through University to become a teacher which in British Columbia is 5.5 years.

You have a choice - shop at the clothing store where to shop for both kids and yourself would run you $350 or buy pretty much the same stuff at Walmart for $80.

You would always run into the folks who say "I'd never shop there they buy from sweatshops" etc but at the end of the day it is generally all the wealthy people who can be "morally superior" similar to the electric car guys who can afford $50,000 Teslas. But when you can only afford a $3,000 car - you just hope the thing won't break down - and you shop at Walmart because you also need money to eat.

Indeed, a 2l bottle of V8 was $2.49 Cad at Walmart and $5.29 at Save-On the big grocery chain. So once again - you have two kids going to the fridge and you want them to get some sort of vegetable - you go to Walmart even if you hate them as a corporate citizen.

If you make $100,000 a year you can spend double on your grocery bills and quadruple on the shirt hand-made in Canada or the US - otherwise, you're going to Walmart.

I bought a leather jacket at Walmart in the year 2000 for $49 as a student - that jacket I wore all the time - it is 2022 - it is in perfect condition - you would think I just bought it. I bought a $500 Jacket from the Leather Ranch - it fell apart in 4 years. You never know.

Granted in Canada, Walmart treats employees a lot LOT better than in the US perhaps due to our laws in Canada that protect workers. But Walmart pays more than minimum wage so if applying for a place to work in the mall - you'd actually want to get hired by Walmart - Min wage is $15.20 an hour and I believe Walmart starts at $16+ and they have other benefits. Costco is even better.

If you are ever in Nanaimo, Vancouver island (ferry from Vancouver right to Nanaimo) stop into the Walmart - then see the ones I have seen in the US - you will be rather surprised at how different it seems. It shows that if Walmart wanted to be "nice" to other workforce they can. Or Canada forces them to - but either way they're making a lot of money. It's this "too much is never enough" thing that I don't understand. You've made your $20 billion why not pay employees enough to not need three jobs and live on food stamps? Sure I get it if the CEO is struggling but ...
