My FIL had macular degeneration.

Because of AARP he was allowed to have his eye doctor give him an
eye exam for his driver's license.
He passed!!!!!
Even though he couldn't see anything directly in front of him.
He had to look 35 degrees to his left to see what was in front of him.

One day I had to drive him to his mechanic to pick up his car
after they serviced it.
As we passed a 55 and over places another driver way passed his day,
flew out from behind the guard booth, straight through the STOP
right in front of me. I hit the brakes hard to avoid this passed
his driving days driver and my fil flew forward and almost face planed
my windshield.
Of course, he yelled for stopping so quickly, (he didn't believe in seat belts because he might get into an accident and the car could flip over into a pond or lake and he would then drown. LOL, lol.

This mans had a driver's license with eyes so bad thanks to the AARP!
