Actually yes - I am in agreement with your post here that this started well before Trump - it continued into Trump's presidency and it is continuing today. It's not directly about the USA - in fact it is Putin wanting Ukraine and he has wanted it for decades REGARDLESS of who is president.

Okay. I am sure you are also in agreement that Putin is a thug and a dictator who allows no freedom of the press and has killed and tried to kill his political opponents and you can vote for anyone so long as you vote for Putin.

Can we agree that Putin is a Dictator and that BOTH OF US would rather live in the USA than life under Putin? See we agree on more than you think - we're on the same team here.

So now you want to stop this guy without causing WWIII?

Putin is 100% against this alliance - regardless of who is president of the United States.

NATO is fundamental here because Democratic presidents want to be strong contributors and backers of NATO and Republicans do not. That's okay and all - you believe what you believe but Putin's argument has been that he will not accept NATO ever allowing Ukraine as a member.

And let's be honest - the USA has the resources and military might here - NATO looks a LOT stronger with the USA backing NATO than if the USA does not back NATO - NATO alone isn't powerful enough of a threat on its own.

Trump was not the least bit a fan of NATO and noted his frustration with NATO because they were not, in his opinion, spending enough. Again I am NOT blaming Trump for this (it's partly true) - it's just a fact and Trump said so many times - America first, America first, America first. He was not a fan of spending money on NATO allies without getting something in return.

This is the important bit.

Putin's decision to invade Ukraine, therefore, rests, in no small part, on the fear that Ukraine could join said alliance and annihilate its long-standing hold over Eastern Europe. Trump was, at best, outwardly indifferent to Ukraine joining NATO. President Joe Biden, on the other hand, openly told Ukraine not even three months ago that membership was essentially theirs for the taking. If anything, it is precisely because Biden took this stronger stance that cuts against Russian interests that Putin felt he had no choice but to take Ukraine by force now, before it enjoyed a powerful shield of protection from the United States and Western Europe.

When it comes to a president's strength it is important that countries stand up to dictators and murderers like Putin. Trump never did and never would. And we know that because he never did. Biden, on the other hand, is taking a big risk at the polls.

"Relatedly, we must consider that defending Ukraine with sanctions today requires that Americans accept some level of discomfort, largely in the form of higher gas prices in the near term. This sort of economic hardship has direct implications on a president's popularity, meaning they too will pay a cost for standing strong against Russian aggression. It is nigh inconceivable that Trump would have ever considered expending personal political capital on such an endeavor, particularly when said policy would need to be taken so close in time to a midterm election.

The only way to believe Trump would have been strong enough to deter Putin from invading Ukraine is to bat an eye to reality. For those of us with open eyes, we can plainly see the ridiculous nature of such assertions."

If Trump were in charge and would not back or be a part of NATO (America first) then it is highly unlikely Trump would put sanctions on Russia. H would not seek out nor gather up NATO Allies' support to put sanctions on Russia.

Had Putin attacked Ukraine it would already be over and Ukraine would belong to Russia in a couple of days - as there would not be Biden's and NATO's billions in weapons and medical supplies to beef up Ukraine's defence and there would be no sanctions against Russia because it is doubtful Trump would have liked to take the Political hit from higher gas prices or spent the money. The sanctions take a toll on the US economy as well.

Putin is paying a heavy price basically destroying the entire Russian Economy for future DECADES over this. The NATO/US combined beating they are laying on Russia is epic. Articles have noted that China has been watching and they know they will be CRUSHED if they try and go into Taiwan and it is highly unlikely they will want to ruin their entire economy if they try to invade it.

On the one hand I sort of see the idea that Putin might not have invaded if concessions were made to Putin like the US essentially getting out of NATO and letting Putin do whatever he wants but on the other hand I think I like America a lot more when they stand up to the likes of Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Putin.

The US got involved to help stop Hitler and FINALLY they are being the heavyweight now and taking it to Hitler 2.0 in POO-TIN.

I like when America stands up and says FU we're not letting you be a thug anymore and we're going to get our allies together and our companies from Apple to McDonald's and say Screw you Mr. Putin we're going to pulverize you and maybe we can't do it militarily (because that would be world suicide) but through these sanctions, we're going to pulverize you so badly economically that you will be a 9th rate country! We're going toscrew over your billionaires and get them pissed off at you - Mr. Putin you will have no friends - everyone in your own country will want to take you down as well.

This is American Strength - doing something because it's the RIGHT THING to do and not because it looks good at the polls. I am damn proud of America for going after this thug and I am damn proud of NATO and Ukraine for standing up to the bully. The World first, the World first, the World first - you are always ALWAYS stronger TOGETHER than when standing alone.

I love when America does the right thing - I am damn proud of the USA for doing this and for the citizens making some sacrifices at the gas punps - and for all the US veterans who are suiting up and travelling to Ukraine to help them in the battle and for the US companies blackballing them.

Putin didn't think America and NATO would get this tough on him - well he's in a whole world of hurt now! America and her allies are laying the most epic beatdown on this murdering bully. Finally - America is taking it to this scumbag! I love America right now - more than ever. With luck, his underlings will plot to kill him as Hitler's underlings plotted to kill him - or that like Hitler, Putin will blow his brains out.

America is not messing around or kowtowing to the bully - thank you USA for FINALLY laying a beatdown on this prick. He may take Ukraine in the end - but destroying their entire economy for decades to do it will be a very hollow victory indeed!
