Why gasoline prices are going up is less important than that they're going up. It's going to drag down the economy because it always does. Stuff gets more expensive, people have less money to spend, other people lose their jobs, etc. There's a lot of overvalued sectors of the US economy that are due for correction.
Right now Americans look at Ukraine they way they look at disaster relief. Give to help the plucky Ukrainians hold off the Russian juggernaut.
When their homes are worth less, when they're underwater on a $50K pickup truck they can't afford to make payments on any more, they aren't going to care about Ukraine and they're going to demand the Joe Biden or whatever simulacrum of a human being takes Biden's place in two years do something about the economy.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
