I understand what you are saying - Even on boards with this feature you can still click and disable it to read messages from people on the ignore list. So it still requires self-restraint.

Still, I feel like the option can help because it's similar to roadkill or traffic accidents. Most people look when they pass by but do not go driving around in search of it.

When someone insults me - I have a bad habit of responding - and like in the schoolyard - the teacher often punishes the student who reacted and not to the instigator.

On another forum, I was being trolled and I replied nastily and used some Stereophile writers as an example. I had not intended to attack the writers they were basically used as props to make a point - anyway I hurt some feelings I didn't intend to hurt and the troll gets off scot-free. I have since put that troll on the ignore list and a few others and have not had any issue there since.

Even on this board, I got a vacation over some name-calling and that person would be on my ignore list and would not have happened - also avoids wasting moderator's time on this stupid stuff.

Likewise, they can ignore me. I asked a poster a while back who continuously complains about some of my posts to simply not read my posts as they aggravate him. Strangely - he only seems to pop up to post to me so perhaps he is using an alternate account. But if he could ignore me under one or all of his accounts then his heart rate would not go into palpitations when he sees my name come up.

On most boards I have been on there are only 1-2 people - on central I probably need to ignore about 10 people. I realize it's hard due to all of the political posts - mine included - but perhaps what is needed is an absolute zero-tolerance policy - one word on Biden/Trump or Fox or CNN or US taxes or Putin/Ukraine needs to be completely deleted and a 3 day holiday for the person who starts such a thread.

I mean I posted threads about beautiful gorgeous women and got no replies but these guys are willing to have 50 posts about Tucker Carlson vs MSNBC - I mean I am 48 - I really hope I am spending time talking about Margot Robbie over talking about Tucker Carlson and Mike Pence. Seriously - what is wrong with us? Have they put something in the water to ruin our libidos?
