...and that's not saying/implying that they're stupid or unskilled. Some people just don't/won't "thrive" in a classroom or office environment. There is huge demand for recruits in the skilled trades, and there will always be a demand for skilled tradesmen. And anyone that claims that there's no money in it, obviously hasn't hired a contractor (of any trade) lately. I can almost guarantee that my plumber earns more than I did, as a tenured university professor. Skilled chefs (and I'm not referring to "celebrity" chefs) make damned good money as well, and many of them never even attended culinary school.
Besides--a college degree isn't "worth" what it once was. Now that practically everyone has a degree (of some sorts), it isn't that big of an "advantage" in competing for a job.
