have been doing in San Francisco for decades.
Two years living at home and taking CAREFULLY selected classes at the local JC, San Francisco City College (yours truly's alma mater). Almost free and with CAREFULLY selected classes, all of which can be transferred to most of the State Universities where they can finish with a Bachelor's degree or better yet, an upper division degree.
I went to 'Silly College' as we called it then, on the GI Bill and put my monthly GI Bill check (tax free) for attending half-time in my pocket with but a few $$$ a semester pit toward tuition and books.
And, at least in computer programming, I think we bettered San Francisco State University as our instructors at night school classes were 'real' data processing professionals in their day jobs.
Even made the 'night school deans list'.
Fancy that!
