For a 4-year University Degree (Bachelor of Arts) at my old stomping grounds, Vancouver Island University, it would be around
$20,000 for Tuition
$32,000 for room and board
Books you can usually buy used or use the library. But I suppose you could say $500 per semester so round up to say
$4,000 for books - more if you take technical courses demanding new textbooks.
Food/entertainment/clothes/transportation (bus pass) and probably $12,000 a year if you eat poorly.
$48,000
Say $105,000 Canadian ($83,000 USD). Student loans from the government-run prime plus 2%

So don't choose English, Sociology, Philosophy, Anthropology, Education if you want to make any money. I did the 4 years plus another 1.5 years in Education - I lucked out eventually getting a job in education in Hong Kong where they pay teachers like doctors - had I taken a job in Canada or one of the US offerings I'd still be paying off those student loans and generally being penniless.
There are various scholarships in Canada that mitigate some of the above costs. It all depends on how well you did in High School.
