RE: Celebrity Crush (#2)

Well, there are bad people in any industry so it comes with the territory I suppose. People, including me, are becoming less tolerant of people who have different opinions on important issues. Generational shifts in thinking as well.

If a filmmaker or actor has a stance on some topic then there will be a group of people who get angry that they "should stick to acting" but I always thought that was weird because we don't say things like "stick to being a computer programmer" or "stick to being an entrepreneur" or "stick to being a doctor."

All these people have political views while having a job so I don't get why people get so upset over an actor or musician "having an opinion"

Both sides in politics have actors and musicians who speak out on politics or have personal views that may disgust a given group.

For instance, I think Mike Pence is just a flat-out backward weird guy for saying he won't spend time alone with a woman - he needs a chaperone. I mean to me that's Handmaiden' Tale weird. He can't trust himself to be alone with a female - eesh. But hey he got elected.

And then on the left, Tom Hanks is probably hated because he voted for Biden or said that he supported LBGTQ+ rights.

I suppose people don't want to know the politics or religion of movie stars and directors etc because perhaps they really like the actor's work or a particular film.

If you love a film and you find the director is at the opposite end of your belief system maybe you have trouble watching that film or the actor in the future.

To be fair, the arts in general leans toward the political left for a multitude of reasons based on the history of the arts collected works in the theatre and literature. These are typically not "money generating" fields of study. Artsy folks tend to gravitate to fields they like over what will make them rich (which is sort of amusing because they wind up rich if they "make it" in the industry.)

Let's say it is less pragmatic to think you will make it and become a star so I suspect people who grow up in more conservative right-leaning families guide (or push) their kids to maybe go into entrepreneurship, stock market analyst, Finance, Accounting etc, the fields which have more of a guaranteed paycheque.

Of course, there are exceptions like Clint Eastwood, Ted Nugent, or Kirk Cameron etc but it's not a big club comparatively.
