I think the problem is that one side is completely 100% anti-intellectualism - so if you raise a fact - the fact doesn't matter it's all about who raises the fact. So if you have a Yale or Harvard or Oxford professor on to discuss some topic - it doesn't matter what he says - he's viewed as a "Liberal Elite" and so it's thrown out.
Mitch McConnel says one thing when Obama is president - and the exact opposite thing when Trump is president. You can see the video of it. But no one on the right - not even the people on the right on this board filled with people who can in fact write their name and tie their shoes are willing to admit that "yes that is hypocrisy" - people are unwilling to criticize the people they voted for and it seems to be a distinctly American issue that no one will admit they're wrong. E-Stat - someone who has married a university professor says money isn't everything but only ever talks about money. As if that were the only important issue worthy to discuss. So he is a hypocrite.
And then when the liberal is president - money isn't what gets discussed - the stock market has had record highs under Biden, GDP has risen 5.5% in his one year which considering the pandemic is pretty darn good. I mean he has two DINOs in the senate so he doesn't actually control the senate.
The greatest rate of growth in 40+ years. More jobs have been added in his 1 year in office than the last 40 years. Unemployment has dropped to 3.9% from 6.4% since he took office. He's miraculously managed to avoid a recession. I mean there is only so much somebody can do. But he doesn't have the popularity of wasting tax money on golf trips and rallies
But Bill Maher kind of summed him up equating him to that powdered coffee creamer - he's nobody's first choice but he gets the job done. And that's a pretty good assessment.
Most people on the left didn't like him and anyone in the Bernie and AOC camp - they held their nose and voted for him. His poll numbers show that because he isn't progressive enough. And on the right, he's too progressive. So he can't win with them - and he can't win with anyone in the Trump camp - because he isn't racist or cruel enough for their liking. And being pro-Choice probably loses him 20 million votes automatically as many of R voters are single-issue voters - to be fair that would be true for pro-choice people as well - they may never vote for anyone who will take away Roe.
People wonder why I as a Canadian would care - well ask the People in Poland and France to not care about what happened in Germany. I don't care all that much about Reagan and Bush and Carter and Clinton - but it seems to be getting worse.
Bill Maher has Yale History Professor Timothy Snyder on the show a couple of days ago.
Watch from the 5 minute 50-second mark on. This will no doubt delight the Trump fans. It's weird but I always thought Republicans were actually more for freedom of speech and all that good stuff and they used to be the ones who always bought those war movie videos like the Longest Day or D Day or Saving Private Ryan. You know - "Fight the Fascist Nazi" movies. So it is disturbing they seem to want a dictatorship and destroy voting rights and ban groups like Trans people from serving in the military (Biden has reversed that so now 14,700 Trans members can get back into military service.
