I think most people get married and believe in "forever" and then half of them get a divorce. The remaining 50% who stay together, you probably figure that half of them aren't happy and just staying married for financial reasons or for the kids. So maybe 20% of marriages are actually happy long-term.
So while I am positive that my heart thinks we're a great match lalalala - my brain says yes but... just in case.
So it's all great now but you never know in 10 years.
I'm not rich but I want to protect my pre-marriage assets.
You are right, there are most definitely different rules governing pre-nups and divorce in different states and provinces as well as here in Hong Kong.
Lastly, Some guys who marry women from other countries find that over time they get homesick for their home country and want to move back. So it's not like all divorces will be acrimonious. But it's one of those possible eventualities to try and consider.
