Some States hand them out like candy on Halloween, others are more conservative. Around here, you don't have to be very "impoverished" to get them. In FL, you can use them at fast-food establishments. A couple years ago, MI revoked the benefits from nearly 20,000 individuals that were receiving them. They were full-time university students, working part-time jobs, so they met the income requirements and were just getting them "because they could". If you're a single mother (being 100% supported by your parents/family, or baby's daddy), you can get them for both yourself and your kid.
