This is only anecdotal. I frequently drive by the elementary school of my youth on the way to visit my mom. On the playground at recess I see kids just hanging out in groups of various numbers and getting no exercise. Lots of overweight kids. Of course there is some activity.
When I played on that playground a lifetime ago it was chaotic. We sprinted from the classroom and reluctantly returned at the bell after nonstop play. Class photos from that time show one or two kids, at most, that are overweight. In fact I can still name the few kids from that time who were overweight. It was that unusual.
