I think I'd rather live in

New Zealand.

I remember back in 2004/2005 folks from New York and North/South Carolina came to our University on Vancouver Island trying to recruit teachers. $50,000US to move to New York for a minimum 3-year service. I forget what the Carolinas were offering. I didn't attend them but other teachers gave me the run down - some other US states were interested. When I returned from South Korea I had put up my CV to various hiring agencies and someone from Dubai, Yellowknife, and London contacted me with their packages.

Back in 2009, the offer from Dubai was the best financially at $50,000US (no tax) and a free apartment and free utilities and free car (not sure if that was just a driver to go back and forth to the school as I had in Mainland China) Still that was a damn good package for teachers with only one or two years experience.

London's package was abysmal and my friend from London noted that you definitely don't want a school downtown. It was something like £25,000 which gets you nowhere and didn't include housing. New York is expensive and their package would not get you anywhere either. You want to have enough money to actually see the shows and go to the baseball games and take a lady out on the town without it being pizza by the slice.

The Northwest Territories is still very high on my backup list if things go south in HK. They pay over $100k a year but a 12 pack of Coke will run you $25 up there as everything is flown in. Still, it would be fun to live up there for a year or two for the adventure of it.

I am sure the money incentives may help some but if you are going to move from one state or province to another then why not look at the whole world. Americans and Canadians can go to several European countries and get 100% or very close to 100% of their University paid. You don't have to be a citizen. You get the education in the class as well as the education of living abroad. Avoid those $100,000 Student loan debts. All the courses are in English as well.
