Exactly - work to live or live to work.
If you live to work you must try and choose something you love to do - something perhaps you love so much you'd do it for free - film directing or acting. Some actors are putting in 18 hour days for months when filming but they loved their work. They also get paid a ton.
My dad was in the high IQ camp but preferred the work to live - leave the office at 4:30 type so he could spend time with family (us) and read books and watch the game (hockey/baseball) and turned down promotions that would keep him in the office longer. One of the reasons I avoided law school was talking to some lawyer friends and seeing their hours - teaching has some long hours too especially in the beginning years but at least they had the summers off (albeit unpaid). I considered medicine and being a doctor - but the blood and the smell and killer hours turned me off. I don't need a 12 bedroom house on the ocean and sports cars never did all that much for me - I like their looks but not the comfort so "The Toys" aren't a motivator. The stereo gear is my only toy and I have a "satisfaction level" sound-wise that doesn't make me hunt the extremely priced items.
