RE: Summer tires...

Again, not the car guy you are, but as I see it there are two factors in suitability for my climate:

1) Traction in snow, sleet, slush etc. Global warming and extreme climate changes in the near future excluded, the last historical recording of ANY snow sticking here on the valley floor was in 1975. We don't get slush, sleet or freezing rain. When it does rain (unfortunately rarely for the last several years), the temps are in the upper 40's - 50's. As I understand it "Summer" tires offer better traction in the rain.

2) Tire temperature affecting the rubber compound. Michelin rates the tires at +40˚F. The average Winter temp here is 42˚F. The temperature in my garage does not go below 50˚F. We get a few days in the 30's, extremely rare to get below that.

So, if the car is garaged at an ambient temperature above 40˚F the compound should be fine, correct? Once they are on the road they would warm up, correct? Any extremes beyond that I'm not using them, but why would they not be good under those conditions?
