after reviewing the above links you'll see a pattern emerge perhaps best summarized in the last one
"Concerns over a possible invasion of Taiwan have been flamed by Xí Jìnpíng's 习近平 increasingly strident nationalism, yet we should remember that every leader of modern China, beginning with Chairman Máo Zédōng 毛泽东 in 1949, has pledged to "reunify" Taiwan with the mainland"
and over here, stateside, Ghost correctly identifies [one of the] sources for US sabre rattling in the AEI but what of motivation? using the old 'follow the $$' axiom is useful, but another component is a strategic 'filling the plate' of the current admin to distract it from domestic economic policy [read taxes] hoping it loses focus dithering away valuable time over foreign policy distractions by those standing to gain the most such as the 'MIC'
as I stated in an earlier post all this preening and sabre rattling over the Straits Of Taipei serves the interest of the CCP in what has become a tradition for maintaining nationalist support similar to the way Cuba was utilized by the US and USSR back in the day
so there's always that going on, same as it ever was
