I'll admit that defense spending is too high; however, some increases were needed due to a lack of funding in previous administrations to replace equipment and maintenance parts required for the longest war. The real problem is that all the cuts requested were nixed by that certain party that also demands $2 more in their discretionary spending for every $1 added to defense.
In 2000, the US government spent $1,788,950 with a surplus of $236,241. By 2019, the government spent $4.448 trillion, a 249% increase. To top it off, the federal government spent $6.55 trillion in FY 2020, largely due to the CARES Act and three other stimulus measures amounting to an increase of $1.76 trillion.
