Wrong again 51...

The statues were erected in the late 1800's and early 1900's, during reconstruction, to usher in Jim Crow, to reinforce white supremacy. There was another wave of confederate statues erected during the 50's and 60's during the civil rights era again to intimidate and oppress.
After reconstruction the Daughters of the Confederacy was formed in 1894 to protect and venerate Confederate memory following the American Civil War, and were allowed to write text books with "their" version of the war, that's where you get the bull shit about honor, protecting the home, the lost cause and war of northern aggression etc. The civil war was about protecting slavery and seceding from the Union, end of story.
Art, fart, they are symbols of oppression and white supremacy and should be toppled and left where they fall for all to see.
In what country, on what planet does the looser get to erect statues of it's leaders and write text books with their version of the war? In America that's where.
This is not about changing history it's about removing symbols of oppression, if you want history, read a book.
