Beware The Ides of August

"The Ides of August is a relatively brief "think piece" by Sarah Chayes, an American reporter who rolled into Kandahar a few days after the Taliban collapsed in 2001. Ms Chayes worked in Kandahar for ten years, learned to speak Pashto, and became an adopted daughter of the city. Along her way she met people of all walks of life, from the locals to Adm Mike Mullen.

In this eight minute read, Ms Chayes has her say about corruption, the futility of the US efforts, and the people who profited either in making money or their bureaucratic mark during the twenty year the US was involved in Afghanistan.

Ms Chayes was also on "Morning Joe" on 23 August and I'm including a link to that as well.
