of course you understand the difference between planning and execution
when part of the plan is a known variable that can't be controlled and the situation offers no tenable contingency actions things will get messy
this situation started messy, stayed messy, and is ending that way
it's not surprising at all and any CIC would be looking at the same thing
it's also little wonder that the various military brass involved through different administrations urged a stay the course policy because withdrawal on their watch would make them look bad ... and they do
but they'll use the same old saw that soldiers win battles politicians lose wars hoping the public loses sight of the fact that the Taliban were never an enemy of the USA ... the 'war' was a sham
