You forget some small items, well not really that small.

The US troops would still be in-country en mass.
The US troops would still be in control of the capital.
The US troops would still be in control of the airbase.
The US troops would still be in control of the arms caches.
The US troops would still be in control of the artillery.
The US troops would still be in control of the major military hardware.
The Taliban would not be in the capital.
The Taliban would not be in control of the airport.
The Taliban would still be on a short leash.
The Taliban prisoners would still be locked up.
The Taliban would still be unarmed without the MILLION$$$ in US military gear.

But by all means, don't let those dominating factors cloud your story.
