It depends. A sneeze would propel many different sized droplets containing the virus. Loud talking would send smaller and possibly just viruses around. The point being that a cloth mask or even a surgical mask is largely ineffective in close contact. A droplet that hits your mask can easily pass the virus through mask as you breathe, sucking it in.
If the contagious person wears a mask, it would help to contain the virus somewhat in the mask and limit the distance it might move. Of course, HVAC systems can pick up the virus and send it all over the facility.
Finally, for best practices, you should be wearing a mask and gloves and dispose of them and sanitize your hands when you leave any indoor place. Touching the outside of the mask which people do all the time can put the virus in your hands. Reusing masks can also contain live virus for some period of time.
The true value of masks is to contain as much of the virus as possible within the mask of an infected person.
