As a military brat, I learned a lot during Vietnam. My father's typical comment was something like, "You can't fight a war up to the line. We could have won the war long ago if the politicians would let us do our job."
I'm not so sure because you can't win a guerilla civil war.
We should have never been there or left after Bil Laden was killed. We have no business being the world cop or a nation builder. Let China try next.
On the bright side, Vietnam worked it well over the last 40 odd years on their own and are an alternative the a China supply chain. I hope that the Afghans can do the same though I fear the religious zealots being a big problem. It's impossible for me to have any real understanding the tribal complexity.
I just know that the British and the Russians failed. Why would we ever get involved?
