Socialism in the European context is quite different than what is currently being pushed by our elites. As you know, Medicare is not free. You pay into Medicare for many years and then, when you're eligible, there are quarterly premiums. FDIC is an insurance program paid by the banks.

In Europe, healthcare is taxed and everyone pays for it. True socialism means that everyone pays a little for the greater good. And some will pay a bit more based on income and whatever.

My problem with the current proposals for US socialism is that the cost will be paid by the 'rich' and corporations. It's free for everyone else. Great! Let's have more socialism. It's all free for me!

It's evil and unsustainable to tell folks that they won't be paying for what they get from the government. You must broaden the base and everyone should be paying into the system to fund the benefits. That's not to say that the rich and corporations can't pay a little more as well. However, corporations would have been paying more all along if our elites wanted them to do so. Given the laws that the elites pass, it's obvious that they're in bed with the money. Who do you think creates all the loopholes for the rich and corporations?
