Getting data is awfully difficult. I read an article about hospitalizations in Florida. In Miami-Dade, there primary hospital network had something like 5 children in the ICUs. It sound terrible.
But it tells me next to nothing and is more like fear-porn. I don't know how many facilities this includes, 2 or 10. Next, the ages aren't in the article and neither is race or other health problems. If 4 of the 5 kids have cancer and are on chemo, it tells me something different. We know comorbidities are a key issue. Or the kids may actually very obese 17 year olds with diabetes.
We really don't get the full story with context. Rather, we're fed headlines and click bait.
I'd surely like to see the cases start dropping down as the Delta strain did in the UK. If it's so contagious, Florida is building up a lot of natural immunity. Of course, the tourist industry makes it more difficult to stamp out in Florida while new people coming down to party every day.
Personally, I don't think kids needs masks at least in Elementary Schools. It's not healthy for 8 hours as your CO2 goes way up, so they don't get as much oxygen. Try running around the track in one. Adults need to get vaccinated and let the parents decide on their kid's mask use.
