Sounds like a class mine used to take. Ostensibly called Charlie Tickner's Competitors Power Class, aka Charlie's hour of pain. Sadly the rink he used to teach at shut down. That was where there were lots of adult skaters. Most were in the "production" class, think Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Holiday Nutcracker, etc. They loved it so much, it was social and they were serious, most not particularly good, but that didn't matter, they were having fun.
That class was what taught the girls who survived what it takes to be a serious competitive skater. It was an amazing sight to see, 10 girls giving it everything and then he asked for more, and they delivered!
Hope you and your wife can keep skating for a long time. Me, I get to drive and write the checks...
